The Department of Human Services is focused on improving access to health care in Pennsylvania while reducing Medicaid spending. DHS has begun to reward health care providers for the quality of their care, focus on preventive screenings, and work to limit costly and sometimes unnecessary services, such as an overuse of emergency rooms.
When Governor Tom Wolf expanded Medicaid in 2015, more Pennsylvanians than ever were able to access quality health care coverage. The expansion opened up Medicaid to even more people living on low incomes, people who had been diagnosed with substance use disorder, and others.
Medicaid provides health coverage to millions of Americans, including children, pregnant women, parents, seniors and individuals with disabilities. In some states the program covers all low-income adults below a certain income level.
Pennsylvania's Medicaid program is a lifeline for vulnerable populations, including children, people with disabilities, older adults, and people who are battling substance use disorder. When Governor Tom Wolf expanded Medicaid in 2015, even more Pennsylvanians were able to get covered and get connected to critical health care services.

This dataset contains counts of professional licensees per each licensed occupation and is broken down by County of licensee.
*Appearances of non-Pennsylvania counties in the data are due to practitioners that are either licensed to practice in Pennsylvania but live out of state or own a facility in Pennsylvania but live out of state.
**Appearances of null values in the data are due to the county field being an optional field for a license application and the county does not auto populate based on the address at this point in time.
