This is a connection to Philadelphia's open data portal - OpenDataPhilly.org - built by Azavea, a Philadelphia-based geospatial software firm. OpenDataPhilly is based on the idea that providing free and easy access to data information encourages better and more transparent government and a more engaged and knowledgeable citizenry.

OpenDataPhilly is a catalog of open data about the Philadelphia region. It includes more than 300 data sets, applications and APIs from many organizations in the region, including from City government. The website enables users to search for and locate data sets based on keyword and category searches. For each data set, application, or API, the website includes accompanying information about the origins, update frequency, and other specifics of the data. The record for each data source also includes links for downloading the data or accessing the application or API.

Abstract:
Boundaries of municipalities within Pennsylvania as delineated for the PennDOT Type 10 general highway maps. Additional information comes from the Pennsylvania Bureau of Municipal Services. This layer contains all classifications of municipality including first and second class townships, boroughs, cities and the town.
The shape file reflects a name change from Osborne borough to Glen Osborne borough in Allegheny county and a name change from Abington Township to Waverly Township in Lackawanna county. The shape file also reflects various municipal boundary line tweaks that have occurred since the 2011_01 update.
Purpose:
Public information and support for transportation planning, design and development.
Supplemental_Information:
This data is intended for use at 1:24,000 or smaller scale. This layer supercedes and replaces previous versions of padot-borough, padot-city-town, and padot-township.

This is a connection to the Western Pennsylvania Regional Data Center in Pittsburgh, to the Pennsylvania Open Data Portal.
The Western Pennsylvania Regional Data Center provides a shared technological and legal infrastructure to support research, analysis, decision making, and community engagement. It was created in 2015 and is managed by the University of Pittsburgh Center for Urban and Social Research, in partnership with Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh. The Data Center would not be possible without the trust of our partners and support from the Richard King Mellon Foundation, The Heinz Endowments, and the University of Pittsburgh.

The University Center has long served as a community information intermediary in Allegheny County. Information intermediaries help people find and use information to improve their communities. The Data Center is one in a long line of initiatives of the University Center in this intermediary role. From 2005-2014, the Center operated the Pittsburgh Neighborhood and Community Information System, is home to the Pittsburgh Today regional indicators initiative, and recently launched the Southwestern Pennsylvania Community Profiles community indicators project.

Over time, the University Center realized that the broader use of data in the region was inhibited by the lack of a legal infrastructure, technologies that did not support the dissemination of raw data, incomplete data documentation, and a lack of capacity for managing information in a fragmented political environment. The Data Center provides this infrastructure while institutionalizing the role of a data intermediary within a regional open data infrastructure. In 2013 and 2014, we wrote about our early open data experiences in a two part series (part one, part two).

We are often asked by people in other cities to talk more about the Regional Data Center. We’re happy to do so, and we find that everyone gets the most out of these conversations by first reviewing our document containing lots of background information about the project.

There are a growing number of Pennsylvania counties involved in ramping up overdose prevention, treatment, and recovery activities to address the opioid overdose epidemic. The counties involved are collaborating to develop resources that can be used by all Pennsylvanians to increase community awareness and knowledge of overdose and overdose prevention strategies as well as to support initiatives aimed at decreasing drug overdoses and deaths within the participating counties. As a centralized resource and technical assistance hub, OverdoseFreePA is a central repository for these efforts to facilitate increased treatment and prevention efforts in these communities.

Pennsylvania Opioid Overdose Reduction Technical Assistance Center (TAC)
Pennsylvania, and the nation at large, is in the midst of opioid overdose epidemic. The TAC’s vision is to lead Pennsylvania communities to zero overdoses.The TAC hopes to achieve this vision by providing concierge technical assistance in the form of data driven recommendations and customized strategic planning to counties working to eliminate overdoses. The TAC strives to lead the field in identifying and sharing strategies to eliminate overdose through the central repository of OverdoseFreePA.

Based out of the Program Evaluation and Research Unit (PERU) at the University of Pittsburgh’s School of Pharmacy, the TAC assists counties and communities in assessing needs, building capacity to address the needs, developing and implementing data driven plans with high quality outcomes, and sustaining initiatives to eliminate overdoses, both fatal and non-fatal, throughout Pennsylvania.
